Such an interestingly strange and yet beautifully gruesome intro, followed by moments of silliness and then followed by gruesomeness.

Something is off about this situation, the atmosphere is totally creepy in a rather odd way. We now have an inexplicable story starting to develop, and it feels truly sinister.

What a twisted tale of childhood trauma and the horrors our minds create to survive.

French director David Moreau is undoubtedly talented, but Other seems a bit forced in its quest for originality. The quality regularly breaks through through effective tension-building and convincing cinematography. This film often looks beautiful, and Olga Kurylenko gives a strong lead role, but once the second half arrives, her fumbling becomes tedious, and not every approach is integrated into the story effectively. When the final revelation arrives, it feels largely patched together and unfinished. The guy in the mask should have been completely removed, as his contribution steers Other in an illogical and unnecessary direction. A passing grade for a few visually appealing moments is undoubtedly possible, however.
