The story about a murderous satanic sect may sound nice in the beginning but in the execution it is much too long and cumbersome. The story is very predictable and has no tension arc.

If the best scene is a run-of-the-mill nightmare of one of the characters, in which he, as a guitarist for a dull heavy metal band, is swept away by a dark dancer with red laser eyes during the rendition of the song subtly titled “Devil’s Son,” that says a lot about the film as a whole. It is never as exciting as during this insane nightmare.

The film fails to come up with anything that is interesting. No sensational shot. No good scene. No striking dialogue or text. No unexpected plot twist. No impressive or enigmatic character. The characters are stupid, made of cardboard and not interesting. No convincing jump scares either. The jump scares are of such an abominable level that you still have to pay close attention to recognize them as such.

It's a dull mess. Even the 'turbulent' final scenes, which contain a tiny surprise, pass by without any form of excitement.

Oh yeah, speaking of excitement. Thankfully, there is some distracting nudity in the film. And quite enjoyable nudity too.

The nudity keeps you going a little bit. The film contains nothing else that is exciting.

Foreign.

Promoted as a slasher, but for those who actually expect this I'm sorry to disappoint. Hack-O-Lantern tries to be more than a slasher, but it just doesn't work, resulting in a lot of vague weirdness that doesn't benefit the film.

I liked the beginning, thanks to a dreamy look with fitting cinematography. The introduction is also good, with a different approach. It is quickly clear that rituals will take up a large part of the plot, and that is not my favorite combination with slashers.

Not here either, this film has become a rather strange but failed attempt. The direction the film goes to is mainly repulsive in a wrong way. At first it all seems to become a slasher, but in the end it is a combination of two horror worlds.

Not that the slasher is special. All kills are basically off-screen and mostly boring stabbing. Some knives that go into a body, there is not much more to experience. For creativity in the field of murders and bloodshed you do not have to put on this film. As the film moves towards the finale you could even say that it all goes off the rails.

The atmosphere is set nicely, but the amateurish camera work and the cinematography that falls short can never boost this optimally. It is clear that Halloween plays a major role, but it could have been better. Yet it is mainly the strange and rather absurd approach that the film eventually takes (satanic rituals) that leaves me with a bitter taste. I did not find this a particularly fun film to watch, and so the rating reflects that.

I find it negative here, and largely agree with ibendb. No, this is definitely not a slasher, it is not exciting or scary, and it is not good in any way. But it is a great example of a B-horror with so much wrong with it that it actually becomes fun again.

In every respect, there is something wrong with it. Overacting is done by a large part of the cast, but especially grandpa, mother and Tommy can do it. And the story, so wonderfully nonsensical - not only the lame plot about a satanic sect, but also all the absurd twists and events, or how illogical the characters behave. A fine bad taste film that I watched (after a few beers) with a big smile.
