Stepanova Pamyatka plot
Miner Stepan meets the witch of the copper mountain. She promises to marry Stepan if he orders the mine superintendent to leave Krasnogorka. Enraged at Stepan's insolence, he has him flogged and locked up. The witch frees him and proposes to him, but Stepan has already promised another girl to marry.
