Salem plot

Young teenager and gang member Djibril lives with his pregnant girlfriend Camilla, herself a member of a rival group, in the slums of Marseille. When Djibril kills a gang member, war breaks out and a curse haunts him. Djibril can communicate with the spirit realm and is convinced that an apocalypse is imminent. He is arrested and spends years in jail. When he is released, he goes in search of his daughter who has to fulfill the prophecy.

Shortly after 14-year-old Djibril [Dalil Abdourahim] hears that his also 14-year-old girlfriend Camilla [Maryssa Bakoum] is pregnant by him, he ends up in prison. More than 12 years later, he is released early and tries to convince his daughter Ali [Wallenn El Gharbaoui] that she – like him – has healing powers and that she is destined to end the blood feud with a neighboring neighborhood. The first part, in which we discover why Djibril ultimately ended up in prison, is a fascinating, but not very original crime drama. The second half, with a number of plot holes and a strange religious angle, is less convincing. It is innovative, but that is not immediately a recommendation.
