Best friends Shawn Gunderson and Vikram "Vik" Kapoor escape the high school grind in Oklahoma through their obsession with all things Japanese. When a mysterious anime movie turns them into superhuman characters, they initially think their wildest fantasies have come true. Then they discover that ancient monsters threaten to unleash the end of the world in 1999 on New Year's Eve. To put a stop to this, Shawn and Vik will have to find the hero within themselves. Miki, a Japanese exchange student, gets caught up in the chaos.
