Win/Win plot

Twenty-three-year-old Ivan (Oscar van Rompay) works as an assistant analyst at an American investment bank in Amsterdam's Zuidas. He sees the sea of numbers that flows past every day as one big game. One day he is discovered by the seasoned trader Stef (Leon Voorberg), who wants to launch him as his junior. While benches are falling left and right, Ivan rakes in huge profits in the dealing room and makes a lightning career. Suddenly the receptionist Deniz (Halina Reijn), who until now only secretly observed Ivan, has eyes for him. And suddenly Ivan lives in a fat apartment a stone's throw from the couch. From the outside, things are going well for him. He loses his sensitivity, but still keeps winning until the day he decides to lose it all.

Granted a second viewing, this time it didn't convince me completely. Half a star, 2.5* is still on the meager side for this film.

What you call a superficial film. All the ingredients you expect from a film about a 'trader' are there. Even the strip club, a scene that is completely separate from the rest. A few conspicuous motifs, such as those shoes, should provide some depth but fail to do so. I did like the music and the camera work is also fine.

I don't understand the premise of the film. If you're doing well financially and there's appreciation for you at work, I don't see how you can end up in such a depression, even if there's a colleague who's less fortunate and is ruined by the job.
I don't understand what the undressing scene was doing in the movie either.

Moderate.
