White Teeth plot

"White Teeth" is a story of two families, three cultures and the changing face of modern England. It begins as the story of two war veterans and friends, Archie and Samad, who rekindle their friendship in early 1970s North London. On New Year's Day 1974, Archie is trying to commit suicide, but is only just saved. When he meets the beautiful, young and rebellious Jamaican Clara, his life finally makes sense again. Clara is on the run from her mother, a Jehovah's Witness. Meanwhile, Samad has an arranged marriage with the much younger Indian Alsana. Samad wants to become a devoted Muslim, but that turns out to be more difficult than expected. The two couples have different bad experiences with multicultural England, unlike their children. The two generations are followed during the following years.
