To what extent does our past determine who we are? What risks are we willing to take to go back to the past, to rediscover and understand it? For a devoted wife and mother faced with difficult life choices, the answers to this question could turn her life upside down... Jo Beckett runs a thriving veterinary practice in New England and is happily married to Reverend Daniel. Yet she feels an increasing unrest and wonders how her life would have turned out if she had made different choices. Perhaps it is because of their free-spirited daughter Cass (who is a singer in a rock band), that Jo also longs for her own free childhood. And then Eli Mayhew shows up, her old roommate in a Cambridge commune in the turbulent 1960s.
