Uttara plot
Two friends, switchman Balaram and railway guard Nimai, live near a remote railway crossing in rural Bengal. They spend their free time on their great passion: wrestling - with each other. Also nearby is a priest who engages in charitable work for the local residents whom he converted to Christianity. Peaceful existence is disrupted when Balaram goes to a nearby village to assist his dying mother. There he is married off to the lovely Uttara and takes her back to the village. The girl's beauty and innocence arouse Nimai's envy. Uttara becomes the focus of the increasingly aggressive wrestling matches between the two men. At the same time, three Hindu extremists arrive in the village, determined to evict their unwelcome priest. As Balaram and Nimai fight over Uttara, the extremists wreak havoc.
