Mazie, a poor orphan girl, is mistreated by the cruel farmer Slag and his wife, for whom she works. When Adam who has run away from school arrives, he is put to work by Slag and also mistreated. Mazie and Adam fall in love, but are threatened by Slag. However, a new farmhand holds the key to their happiness and Mazie's past.
