The Shuttle plot

Bettina Vanderpoel, the charming daughter of New York millionaire Reuben Vanderpoel, leaves for England to visit her sister Rosalie, who is married to Sir Nigel Anstruthers, an English nobleman who has become impoverished. Arriving at their dilapidated estate, Betty discovers that Nigel has not only squandered Rosalie's fortune, but has also treated his wife and their young son cruelly. Betty sets out to repair the estate with her own money and then introduce her sister to English society.
