The Shrike plot

Theater director Jim Downs is recovering from a suicide attempt at a state hospital. Jim's wife Ann visits him every day, ostensibly to provide her husband with support and comfort. In reality, Ann hates her husband for his lack of success and humiliates him. But to the outside world, Ann is a self-sacrificing saint. That's the side of her personality she likes to show. If Jim can't escape Ann's verbal attacks, things won't go well for him.
