The Masquerader plot
"Who was making love to her? Was it her husband? Or was it the masquerader he hired to double for him?"
Shortly after disgracing himself during a speech in parliament, Sir John Chilchote runs into his estranged cousin John Loder in the fog of London. John looks exactly like him. Loder jokingly says he's available to go to boring dinners as his doppelganger and then they part ways again. The next day, Chilchote is weakened by sedatives and decides that he needs Loder to take his place in parliament, but Loder protests.
