The Falling Feather plot

When the internationally renowned painter Mo Ke announces that he wants to sell his prize-winning canvas 'The Falling Feather' and that he will donate the proceeds to a small town in Yunnan, the entire art world is amazed. Why is he doing this? To find an answer to this, we are transported twenty years back in time when a young artist visits the town in Yunnan and is captivated by the location and by a woman there with a feather in her hair.
