The Elevator plot
"Life is like the elevator. It is always up and down."
Roman Juniper, husband and father of three, is forced to go to work on the Saturday of his daughter's birthday. He plans to get home in time for his daughter's birthday party before things take a drastic turn. His wife and children are setting up the decorations and food in the house and begin to wonder where Roman is, since it is well past his workday. A man matching Roman's description has been reported as the victim of a life-threatening accident; the Juniper family is distraught and thinks it just might be him. They all quickly drive to the hospital to find out where and what happened to their beloved Roman.
