The Claim plot

Ted "Blackie" Jerome, a gambler, leaves his wife Belle and baby Goldie to marry the wealthy Kate MacDonald. Kate's brother John, hearing about Ted's wife, kills Ted just as Belle arrives. Belle, unable to support her child, abandons little Goldie and becomes a cabaret singer. A few years later, Belle, needing money to train as an opera singer, blackmails John and Kate, who have adopted Goldie.
