The Children plot

Somewhere in central Europe, a retired engineer, Martin Boyne (Kingsley), takes care of a friend's seven children, when he has no wish for children. He was actually supposed to marry a flame from the past, now a widow Rose Sellars (Novak), but the reunion is not easy. One of the children, fifteen-year-old Judith (Neal), makes a very special impression on him.
