The Assignment plot

Obie is second in rank to the Vigils, a secret society at Trinity High School. A teacher enlists the help of the Vigils to convince the students to sell expensive cookies for charity. Jerry, a new student, refuses this. Obie tries to convince him to sell the cookies anyway, but falls in love with him. However, the Vigils begin to take increasingly drastic measures to bring Jerry into line, and Obie must now decide whether she still wants to be part of the Vigils.
