Surcos plot
After the Spanish Civil War, Manuel leaves the countryside with his family and moves to Madrid in search of a better life. However, city life turns out to be hard and full of setbacks, so that their vision of the city turns out to be wrong. Manuel eventually finds a job, but can't keep up with the fast pace of work. His son Manolo and his daughter Tonia also find a job, but his eldest son Manolo ends up in crime.
