So Big plot
Selina Peake leads a carefree life until her father dies. The shock is great when it turns out that her father has been murdered in a gambling den and he leaves her penniless. She goes to work as a teacher in a Dutch colony in High Prairie and marries the farmer Purvis DeJong, a not too bright man. Dirk, her son, is her only lust and love in life. Her husband dies and Selina is forced to sell vegetables from house to house to keep the farm going.
