Prisoners plot

Austrian dancer and part-time thief Riza Riga steals 300 florins from a café owner. Young lawyer Nicholas Cathy is assigned to Riza to defend her in court. Riza has met Nicholas before and she tells him she is in love with him. Nicholas doesn't believe her but he listens to her story. He is told that she stole the money to buy beautiful clothes that she hoped to attract his attention. Nicholas' fiancée Lenke begins to suspect that he is in love with Riza and secretly offers the cafe owner 300 florins if Riza would leave town, but Riza refuses…
