Príbeh Lásky a Cti plot

It is Christmas Eve 1861. The 27-year-old unknown poet, but well-known journalist Jan Neruda unexpectedly knocks at the door of Professor Muzák's family. He mysteriously hands over a letter to the lady of the house Johanna, who writes under the pseudonym Karolina Svetlá. Jan has fallen head over heels in love with the slightly older woman, whose marriage has become only a formality after the death of their only child. However, Johanna cannot accept Jan's advances as this would put her to shame within the Prague community.
