In the fall of 1943, Mina, daughter of Jewish descent, is assigned to the farmers of the Cevennes. Shocked by the frustrated ways of Jeroboam and the cruel thoughts of Deborah - who is suffering from the two-century-old struggle between Protestants and Catholics - Mina thinks to take refuge with Jeannot. But the boy doesn't like girls and mistreats Mina. Fortunately, she has a friend, the pastor of the village. Thanks to him she can go to school. Despite their ongoing differences, Mina still befriends Jeannot. She convinces him to accompany him to class...
