Permis d'Aimer plot

Malika is 40 years old. She is widowed and of Algerian descent. She works in a school cafeteria and has a 20-year-old daughter named Lila. She raised her daughter according to the principles of her original culture. These principles also include the prohibition of mixed marriages, which Malika attaches great importance to. While Lila is soon to be married to Hocine, Malika falls in love with a colleague, Jean, and secretly begins a relationship with him. However, she is torn by guilt towards her daughter.
