Like many other BBC adaptations of Dickens' stories, this adaptation is highly faithful to the book and very good. The story weaves together several storylines with distinct characters, with money and love (and how the two get in each other's way) as themes. It is often called Dickens' perfect novel because it has everything: psychological depth, biting social criticism of class differences, character development, a complex plot revolving around a mystery, unexpected twists, identity swaps, and an ending where everything turns out well and offers hope in humanity – despite all the corruption caused by the importance money holds in society.
