Young couple Radha and Shyamu run into trouble when they are forced to take out a loan on their land from local lender Sukhilala due to lack of money. No matter how much they pay him back, he keeps asking for more. In a tragic accident, Shyamu loses both arms. He can no longer work. Ashamed of having become a burden to his family, he leaves his wife. Radha now has to raise her sons Ramu and Birju alone. As a single mother, her struggle is complicated by floods and hunger, and most importantly, defending her honor against the pushy Sukhilala.
