Models plot

A staggering picture is shown of three Viennese models, whose sex lives and careers are viewed in a voyeuristic way. Vivian will do anything to become the top model of a well-known magazine. Lisa fills her time with plastic surgery and her cocaine addiction, while Tanya focuses on mystical tarot cards, yoga and animal energy.

First Seidl.

It's actually been on my radar for a long time, but it's one of those directors that it never really happened to. That's why I'm starting with a lesser-known film. It certainly aroused enough interest to still go and see some more of it.

The only problem with this film is that it is very predictable. We follow a number of German semi-famous models who want to make it in the world. Drugs, parties, a bad self-image and lack of self-respect, you can fill in the familiar themes yourself in advance.

Fortunately, Seidl does portray it interestingly enough. Visually quite bare, also at the parties for example, but the acting is good, the visuals give the film a certain grimness and now and then there are also some good scenes. But what saves the film above all is that it is not all doom and gloom. There is also a certain lightness in it, which makes it all a lot easier to watch.

Not very special, but solid.

A glimpse of a number of models in that typical documentary-like manner of Seidl. A look behind the scenes, swaggering and less swaggering. It is anything but rosy. The appearance to the outside world is the code word. It is a depraved world of sharks in which they are a puppet or victim of themselves in order to still be able to participate in the world.

Somewhat similar in concept to his other films where he tries to create a window into how the world works. Always with a sobering bitter undertone. But it is nothing that your style falls backwards, although his approach seems rather caricatural.
