Memory & Desire plot

"This love should have lasted for ever"

The successful civil servant Keiji falls in love with the slightly older secretary Sayo. To escape the pressure of his classy mother, the couple secretly wed in New Zealand. They enjoy their feelings for each other, but then Keiji is killed surfing. In Japan, Sayo is then greeted with contempt by Mrs. Nakajima. Desperate, Sayo travels again to New Zealand to be close to her dead husband's ghost on the beach.
