Lauryn is a young woman from a small town who moves to Chicago with the big dream of being accepted into the Chicago School of Music and Dance. But after being rejected for her participation in the school and a series of accidents, she decides to work in a club. The club proves to be a place of conflict and self-discovery for Lauryn, helping her realize that plans can change, but dreams don't.

This movie has been on my stack for a long time to watch. Movies about girls who move to the big city to start a singing or dancing career are always so terribly predictable.
Anyway, I watched it this afternoon together with 2 men, who are always annoyed by such films.
When the film started for 5 minutes, the three of us had already told the whole film. She doesn't get through, she lies to her brother, of course her brother comes looking for her and she doesn't like it anymore, and finally she is allowed in. And of course there is love in the film .
Maaaar.. still the film captivated me more than Step up, Center it up, and all those other dance films. The performances in the club meant a lot to me. They looked very nice.
But still I can't say exactly what makes this movie better than all those other dance movies.

As far as I can remember the worst dance movie I've ever seen. Miss Winstead looks nice, but that's about it. Little story, mediocre dance scenes and a wafer-thin love story. That's about it.

Make It Happen
Reasonable dance film. It's nice to see Winstead and Thompson at the beginning of their careers, and the dance scenes are well choreographed too. Everything else is very mediocre, and especially the story is predictable and standard. Young woman with big dreams, setbacks, daddy issues, romantic subplot etc. We know it by now. Winstead makes sure that it all still looks good.
