Macbeth plot

Macbeth is quickly promoted after beating the insurgent MacDonwald. When he returns from battle with his friend Banquo, they encounter three witches who have one or more prophecies in store for each of them. Macbeth learns that he will become Thane of Cawdor and later even king. Banquo learns that fame lies ahead for him too: though he may not become king himself, his posterity will. When Macbeth's first prophecy is soon fulfilled, his ambition is aroused and, spurred on by his ambitious wife, he devises a cunning plan to kill the king.
