Les Jardins de Samira plot
Samira lives solely to find a husband. It is ultimately her father who finds a man for her to marry, a widower and childless farmer. Samira discovers that her husband is impotent and that he married her to conform to social conventions. The complete lack of affection and sexual interest from her husband becomes unbearable for Samira, who subsequently develops an interest in Farouk, her husband's cousin. The two begin a forbidden sexual relationship, but her husband discovers the nature of their relationship and casts Farouk out. Samira then plunges into an inner struggle, torn between her need for affection and the indifference of a husband who becomes her guardian.
