Le Défroqué plot
In 1945 Gérard Lacassagne makes the acquaintance of Mauritius Morand, a retired priest. When he meets this strange and contradictory figure, Lacassagne feels that he has a religious vocation of his own. The moment he announces that he wants to join the priesthood, it shocks his family, especially his fiancée Catherine, who refuses to accept his decision. Shortly afterwards, Morand published a book with the controversial title "33 years... Jesus, 2000 years... Judas", for which he garnered much hostile criticism from the Church, which accuses him of betraying the Catholic religion. Catherine makes an ultimate effort to prevent Gérard from becoming a priest by informing the church authorities that Gérard and Morand are friends.
