La Vocation plot

Two young men, Jean De Raimondis, who is poor, and the wealthy Amedée Privaz, have jointly attended the nautical college and attained the rank of ensign. They meet May, the daughter of the Marquise of Pontcournai. Jean and May are attracted to each other, but because Jean is poor, he does not dare to approach her. At her mother's insistence, May marries Privaz, but that doesn't make her happy. During a cruise, Amedee falls overboard and Jean leads the rescue.
