King Lear plot

King Lear wants to divide his empire among his three daughters, Goneril, Regan and Cordelia, the eldest two of whom are married. Cordelia is still single, but praised and sought after as a marriage partner, in part because she is her father's favourite. But when Lear tries to divide his empire and give Cordelia most of it, his plan fails completely. Cordelia refuses and the king, very upset by her reaction, divides her share of the realm between Goneril and Regan.
