Keeping the Promise plot

The year is 1768. In order to build a better life, the Hallowell family claims a fertile piece of land in the middle of the wilderness. Will Hallowell travels to his new country with his thirteen-year-old son Matt to build a cabin for his family. Will decides to leave Matt behind to protect the cabin from intruders and promises to return in seven weeks with the rest of the family. He does not know yet that he will be seriously delayed during his trip because his wife and son have been hit by the flu epidemic. Matt sticks to his father's promises, but weeks turn into months and winter sets in...
