Fuon plot
Seikichi, 70, keeps himself alive by fishing from a small boat off the coast of Okinawa. He and his twelve-year-old grandson Akira live in a small village on the north side of the island. On the rock that lines the beach is a cemetery containing the skull of a kamikaze pilot who was shot down during World War II. When the wind blows through the bullet hole in the skull, it makes a whistling sound that makes the villagers tremble. Seikichi's father brought the pilot's body ashore and Seikichi remembers it well. In the spring, three newcomers visit the village: Kazue, and her son Masashi, who are on the run from her husband, and Shiho, the widow of a kamikaze pilot who wants to know how her husband died.
