Fandry plot
Determined to win the heart of his handsome classmate Shalu, young Jabya tries to capture the mythical long-tailed black starling. Jabya knows he's no match for the slightly-skinned, upper-caste girl, because he and his family are Dalits, 'untouchables'. The villagers ridicule them and the family is only allowed to do unskilled work such as catching wild pigs. Despite Jabya's efforts to improve his life, those around him expect him to conform to his subordinate place in the village. However, Jabya begins to resist the humiliations.
