Extra Innings plot
"Life goes on past the bottom of the ninth..."
Brooklyn, the 1960s. 12-year-old David Sabah feels trapped. He is the youngest of four in a traditional and devout Syrian Jewish family. His parents Esther and Eli set extremely high standards for him, hoping to raise him to be an ideal member of New York's Jewish business community. His eldest brother Morris is schizophrenic and imprisoned upstairs as a family secret, while his eldest sister Vivian has long since been estranged from them for rejecting traditional Jewish values. Only his sister Rita falls in the good graces of the family. She is committed to her role. Fearing becoming a black sheep like Morris and Vivian, David struggles with the balance between his pursuit of happiness and his childish duty, as tensions mount in the face of a tragic loss in his family.
