Endgame plot
From the age of five, Jose received chess lessons from his grandmother in order to follow in the footsteps of his father-in-law, who was a champion of Mexico. As a player on the Brownsville high school team, Jose now has the chance to show off his skills and come to the fore for once in his life as he tries to get his team to the Texas finals. Their coach, Mr. Alvarado, teaches his students the meaning of perseverance and team performance as Jose tries to bring his broken family together.
