Echizen Take-ningyô plot
The young bamboo cutter Kisuke marries Tamae, his father's regular prostitute. Instead of treating her like a real woman, he wants her to take on a mother role for him. This relationship continues as Kisuke gains prestige with his bamboo artworks.
