Dr. Rameau plot

As a child, George Rameau loses his faith in God when his mother is killed by lightning after praying for her protection from his violent, drunken father. Years later, George becomes the most famous surgeon in Paris and marries Conchita Roland, who marries him at her mother's insistence. Conchita falls in love with George's friend, Paul Munzell, but a colleague named Dr. Talavanne intervenes to end the affair. Conchita gives birth to a daughter, Adrian, after which Paul dies in an accident. The shock of losing her lover also kills Conchita, leaving George to raise Adrian alone. He is a loving father until he discovers a letter revealing that Adrian is Paul's daughter.
