I assume that the book consists of the report that the main character writes and that we see and hear her write in the film through the voice-over. At first that bothered me and it seemed to me to be an unimaginative translation to film. But as the film progressed, I liked the cadence of her narration. Her monotonous story reflects her state of mind well and makes the viewer feel the same: from senselessness and hopelessness, to resignation, to looking ahead. In the long run I almost felt the urge to buy a dog and move to the Alps. And I don't like dogs at all.

A beautiful mountain landscape, subtle soundtrack. And it's nice how subtly tension is sometimes built up in an otherwise unexciting history. Beautiful.

In terms of design, this is reminiscent of Stephen King's Under The Dome, but the elaboration of the given here is much smaller-scale and more philosophical. Martina Gedeck is excellent as the woman who, together with a dog, has to survive within gigantic, invisible walls. Her constant narration, although functional, occasionally gets on your nerves and not much happens, but the mysterious, dreamy atmosphere is well captured and the landscape is enchantingly beautiful. The simple but effective data also ensures that you continue to watch with interest.
