De Bruut plot

The painter Henri Norwart goes to the countryside with his wife and child. His wife is seriously ill and he hopes the fresh air will do her good. However, the doctor sees that his wife is deteriorating and advises them to return to the city quickly. Mrs. Norwart knows her days are numbered and asks Henri to promise that when she is gone he will give their son a new mother.
