Cwal plot
Hubert's father stayed behind in Great Britain after the war, while he and his mother live in communist Poland. They are now 'politically suspicious', prompting his mother to send him to his Aunt Ida in Warsaw. She is a single, strong middle-aged woman who is very successful in surviving under the communist regime. She ensures that Hubert is placed in the best school in town and has the same passion as him: horseback riding. As a good Catholic, Hubert wonders whether you can lie as much as Ida in order to survive under the communist regime.
