Heartwarming film in which a retired woman from Georgia and a cheeky boy go in search of her (trans) cousin in Istanbul, the city where you probably don't want to be found. Raw images of a raw city where a trans community seems to thrive, which makes the film more of a fairy tale than a representation of the harsh Turkish reality.

Two outcasts looking for an outcast. Not an image too many, not a word too many, with a beautiful ending that puts you on the wrong track for a moment (and how fitting that the Georgian language and the Turkish language are gender neutral: they have no he/she).

In itself a nice film, except for the main story actually. It was precisely that central relationship between the older woman and the younger man that didn't work at all. But everything else did. Beautiful shots of Istanbul sometimes. When the bus arrives and the camera zooms out to show the grandeur, but also nice tricks such as a tracking shot on the boat that follows the main characters and then goes its own way. Or a shot of the boy on the boat, the camera turns and then follows another woman. Also someone who you think for a long time is the person who is being sought. Furthermore, a nice insight into the neighborhoods of the big city and you are almost presented with an impressionistic image of it. The ending didn't have to be that way, whether she has found someone, or whether that was a dream or whether it is more of a wish: I would have preferred the story to have ended without a successful searcht. 3.5*.

After retiring, teacher Lia [Mzia Arabuli] decides to repay a debt of honor by searching for her cousin. Teenager Achi [Lucas Kankava] has a contact address in Istanbul. This unusual Georgian duo travels to the Turkish capital together and discovers that it is the address of a home for rejected LGBTI youth. Despite the cultural differences and the language barrier, Lia perseveres in their search. The story of Evrim [Deniz Dumanli], a transgender woman who works in Istanbul for 'Pink Life', an advocacy organization for LGBTI people, runs parallel. Of course, the two stories converge towards the end, but much more important is the personal growth of Lia and Achi during an adventurous search that changes their worldview ... and their mutual understanding. A fine road movie without moralizing, well acted and beautifully filmed on location in Istanbul and Batumi (Georgia.) Winner of the Jury Prize at the Berlin Film Festival.
