While diving, young Abby bonds with a blue wrasse. When she discovers that the fish is an endangered species, Abby takes inspiration from her mother and activist Dora. She goes to war against poachers to protect her new friend, and by extension the coral reefs.

A climate feel-good film.
And that's not a negative thing, as far as I'm concerned—in fact, I think many, many more films like this should be made. Maybe then it will finally sink in that money doesn't buy happiness and that possessions are a rather sad pursuit.
The film is actually driven primarily by Radha Mitchell and Ilsa Fogg, who drive the bulk of the story. It's a shame, though; I would have liked to see more of Wasikowska, and if you're a Bana fan, you'll have to pay close attention.
Still, however weak and simplistic the plot may be, it works, and the visuals are stunning both above and below the surface. And in the absence of a hectic plot, there's still time to ponder what life is really about, and how temporary it all ultimately is. No, it's not about some kind of rat race of checking off bucket lists; it's about what you value. Leaving the earth, our place on it, just a little bit tidier than when we arrived, for example.
