Late 1950s. Two German states, two incompatible political systems. Despite everything, the company that Reichert and Kleinschmidt had once built up in the East still exists. While Kleinschmidt fled to the West after the war, Reichtert still runs the company, the product of which, a synthetic fiber, is now a worldwide export. Now the West German company, where Kleinschmidt now works, wants to have all their orders cancelled. That would be a disaster for Reichert, who fears a possible forced takeover. That's why he makes a trip to the West to get more clarity.
