Be Right Back plot

Martha and Ash move to a quiet farm. Disaster strikes when the day after the move, Ash is killed while returning the rented truck. At the funeral, Martha's friend Sarah tells her about a new way to keep in touch with a deceased person and explains how Martha can use all of Ash's online communication to create a new, terrifyingly "real" Ash. At first, Martha doesn't like the idea, but when she discovers she's pregnant, she responds to an email from "Ash".

Haven't seen White Christmas yet, but this "Be right back" is the best I've seen of the first two seasons of Black Mirror. This episode is about coping with the loss of a loved one. It initially reminded me of Her (2013) with Joaquin Phoenix, but gradually evolved into a AI with a body and members as is also discussed in various films (Alien, Ex Machina, etc ...)..

The biggest problem with Be right back and Black mirror as a whole is its limited depth. It is impossible to provide a properly developed plot line in 45 minutes. It is often a trigger to take a moment to think about, but nothing more.

In any case, a very intriguing premise that always catches my attention. Combine this with an impulsive emotional charge and you get a fascinating storyline. Be right back has a constructive plot progression in which the boundaries are continually extended: first textual, then auditory and finally visual. Creepy already, as the examples mentioned with sleeping and breathing. No surprises here in the doings of the partner on the world wide web, but you could be really surprised by your partner... It's nice to see Martha also having doubts. Emotions and real feelings cannot be imitated or programmed. Over time, the copy became a piece of furniture that collected dust in the attic. You never know when it will come in handy...

No idea where this movie went. It starts off okay, but slowly you get the feeling that the director also ran out of ideas and ended the film.

The film says some things about technology and the question of what a person is. But as a whole this thing is too short to really stick and make any real statements. A problem that more episodes of Black Mirror have. Visually okay. 2.5*.

Satisfies.

Ultimately, this is clearly one of the more unusual episodes in the series. Much slower and a bit more "boring" than the average episode, at least, I think. The science fiction itself mainly remains in the background here and makes way for drama and some romance.

The drama clearly takes the upper hand here, with a science fiction edge planted in the background. Although it is not unknown in the series, I found it a bit more difficult to get through due to the pace.

The idea is interesting again, and it doesn't take long before it becomes interesting. Gleeson's acting is above average and Atwell also fulfills her somewhat limited and quite difficult role in the end.

But once the "real" version comes into the picture the film is a bit more boring. The romance just doesn't seem to work (logically) and the drama doesn't offer much that I really like. The science fiction also fades a bit actually.

The episode ends strongly, but I thought this was a less interesting episode in the series, unfortunately.
