Former child star Lucy [Jennifer Connelly] isolates herself in a refuge where, under the guidance of spiritual leader Elon Bello [Ben Whishaw], she searches for tools with which she can improve the difficult relationship with her daughter [Alice Englert]. Whishaw is excellent in this New Zealand black comedy that has long relied on a mild parody of spiritualism in the form of vague group exercises. Only when Lucy renews contact with her daughter does this take on some flesh and blood. Unfortunately, that part is less entertaining than what came before.
