Aufbruch plot
Germany, the 1960s. Hilla Palm's mother is a cleaning lady, her father is a labourer. But Hilla wants to break out of the world of the lower class and go to university and get a degree. She seduces industrialist Godehard's son and dumps him, much to the horror of her very Catholic parents. But one day, Hilla is robbed and raped on her way home. In this time of need, she finds comfort in those she thought she was most estranged from.
